TITLE: Public Safety Support Services Officer (P.S.S.S.)
SALARY ORDINANCE: $57.65 for the first 3 hours | $14.55/hour thereafter

POSITION SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Public Safety Support Services Director, the Public Safety Support Services (P.S.S.S.) Officer is a position responsible for assisting, observing and reporting emergency and non-emergency conditions within the Village. This is a civilian, non-sworn, position with no law enforcement authority. P.S.S.S. Officers assist in duties such as directing pedestrian and vehicular traffic, crowd control, first aid, shelter operations, emergency planning, donation management and other duties as required during a disaster or major incident

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- P.S.S.S. Officers primary purpose and role is to provide response in assistance to the Police Department for traffic control.
- Monitor order at parades, festivals, street fairs, and other special events.
- Act as a liaison between the community and the Police Department during their respective assignment.
- Within the scope of their duties, report conditions of streets, signs, curbs, sidewalks, obstructions of signs, signals, or vision; observe and report conditions conducive to crime or criminal activity; operate radio and telephone equipment.
- Provide support services to other departments, agencies, as assigned.
- Obey and adhere to all safety rules and established work practices.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- A minimum high school diploma
- Two years of college or equivalent, preferred in the course work of criminal justice
- Experience
- Working with the public
- Experience working in a law enforcement or emergency services environment is preferred
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced Communication skills
- Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other Village employees and the public.
- Perform prolonged and strenuous work under adverse conditions.
- React quickly and calmly in emergencies.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- At times, the job may require prolonged standing, walking, sitting, typing, monitoring of a screen, etc. The job incumbent should exercise common sense and take necessary breaks, practice proper body alignment, and alert a supervisor of any discomfort.
