Neighborhood Safety Tips
Get to know your South Holland police officers at Community Policing Meetings and check out the Citizens Police Academy. Call Officer Megan Norris to learn more, 331-3131, ext. 2.
The South Holland Police Department provides its service to the community 24 hours a day. During the holiday season, be more observant and notify police (any time of day) if unfamiliar and suspicious individuals are engaged in the following:
- Hanging around your neighborhood
- At your door, asking for someone who does not reside at your home (this is a ruse to see if anyone is home)
- In your neighbor’s backyard or leave a parked vehicle and walk/run directly into backyards
- Carrying (or running with) property, such as televisions or other electronic items, at an unusual time or in an unusual location
- In a parked vehicle (possible “look-out” for a burglary or other illegal activity)
- In a suspicious work truck in the driveway of a vacant home either in the morning or at night
- Teenagers, on a school day, who are walking the area
Remember, it’s okay to call police if something does not feel or look right to you. For an emergency, always dial 9-1-1; non-emergency calls are taken at 708-331-3131, ext. 2
