Mail Ballots

Registered voters may request a mail ballot online or by paper application. The deadline to apply is five days before the election (typically by March 12).

Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day (March 17) to be counted. Because postmarks are now based on when mail is processed rather than mailed, election officials advise sending ballots early or using secure ballot drop-off boxes at early voting sites.

Drop boxes are open at many early voting sites and some remain available on Election Day.

Election Day Voting

If you prefer to vote on Election Day itself, you must go to your home precinct on March 17 between the standard polling hours. Please check your Voter’s Registration Card sent to you by the Cook County Clerk’s office or visit the Cook County Clerk Elections website to find your current polling place.

Identification & Registration

  • Government-issued photo ID isn’t required to vote, but it can make check-in faster.
  • If you need to register or update your address, you can do so at early voting sites when you go to vote, but you’ll need two forms of ID — one showing your current address.
