Bishop Ford Freeway Construction Begins This Week

Drivers should prepare for changes along the Bishop Ford Freeway (I-94) as a major construction project gets underway this week.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is beginning a multi-year effort to improve and repair a stretch of I-94 that runs through several south suburban communities, including South Holland. The work is part of a statewide program focused on updating and maintaining key transportation routes.

Construction will take place over two seasons, starting with the outbound lanes. During this time, drivers can expect lane reductions, ramp closures, and periodic overnight or weekend work. Delays are likely, and alternate routes are strongly encouraged.

The project includes roadway repairs, bridge improvements, updated signage, and new lighting. Once complete, these upgrades are expected to improve safety, traffic flow, and overall driving conditions along this heavily traveled corridor.

Work is expected to continue through the end of the year before resuming next spring on the opposite side of the freeway.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution when driving through construction zones.
