Planning a home improvement project this spring?
The Village of South Holland Community Development Department is offering a Permit Fee Vacation.
During this limited-time event, permit fees will be waived for qualifying home improvement projects submitted within the program dates.
A permit is still required. However, the fee will be waived on eligible projects.
Program Dates
Application Period: April 20 – May 1, 2026
Submission Deadline: All complete applications must be received by 12pm (noon) on May 1, 2026
Important Guidelines
Owner-Occupied Homes Only
This program is limited to owner-occupied single-family homes. The homeowner must live in the home at the time of application.
Permits Are Still Required
Permits are still required for all applicable projects.
Work completed without a permit may result in penalties under Village Ordinance 6-46.
Contractor Registration
All contractors must be registered with the Village of South Holland.
Contractor registration fees are not included in the fee waiver.
Application Requirements
To qualify, permit applications must be complete at the time of submission and include:
- Contractor(s) selected and registered with the Village
- Signed contract outlining the scope and cost of work
- Plat of Survey (required for outdoor projects), including location and dimensions
- Detailed scope of work and materials list
Incomplete applications may not be eligible for the fee waiver.

Exterior Projects
- Window replacement
- Fence installation or replacement
- Deck installation or replacement
- Driveways, sidewalks, patios (concrete, asphalt, or pavers)
- Siding
- Roofing
- Shed installation
Interior Projects
- Water heater replacement
- AC or furnace replacement
- Flood-proofing improvements
- EV charger installation
- Generator installation
Permit requirements may vary depending on the project type.
Project Timeline
Approved permits allow up to one year for project completion.
