POSITION: Property Maintenance Inspector – Full-time 40 hours/per week

The Village of South Holland, Illinois is a leading suburb located 25 miles south of downtown Chicago with a population of approximately 22,000. The Community Development Department is currently seeking a Property Maintenance Inspector to join the code enforcement division.
Position Summary: Under the general direction of the Residential Code Manager, this position is responsible for the collective safeguarding of life, health, public welfare and protection of property through regulation and enforcement of the Village’s Property Maintenance Code.
Essential Functions: This role is responsible for, but not limited to, responding to property maintenance complaints and patrolling assigned neighborhoods (zones) in a fleet vehicle to inspect and identify property maintenance deficiencies. All work and notices are tracked in specialized computer software requiring data entry of the relevant information, uploading and sorting digital photographic records into digital folders. Communicating with the Residential Code Manager for municipal hearings and any inspection-related issues and/or discrepancies needing to be resolved is essential. Outstanding customer service is critical, and the role requires interacting with coworkers, property owners and residents in a professional and gracious manner. Always maintaining a positive public and professional image of the Village, including professional attire in the performance of responsibilities is a must.
Position Qualifications: Two (2) years of clerical or administrative office experience; or any combination of education,training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job. A High school diploma or GED equivalent required. A successful candidate must be able to maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward coworkers and residents at all times. Proficiency in personal computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook, spreadsheets, and specialized inspection tracking software. Additional key skills are a keen attention to detail and accuracy, an adeptness at organization and multi-tasking, and a desire to serve the public.

Starting Salary Rate: $52,725, eligible for step increase after first year. This is an AFSCME union position.
