Lead Service Line Replacement Program – Year 2
General Contractor: Airy’s Inc. – Sam Buonauro (708) 890-1130
Engineer: Robinson Engineering – John Hilsen (708)-331-6700
The Village is pleased to announce that we have secured $3.0 million in funding through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) for the replacement of lead water services throughout the community.
The IEPA has offered a new debt forgiveness program (free funding) to replace lead water service lines within a community. A service line is the small (3/4” to 1-1/2”) pipe that delivers water to your home from the water main in the street. The Village has secured funding for the second phase of our program and is in the process of pursuing additional funding for future projects, with the intent of replacing all lead services within the Village over the next few years.
Exhibits showing the areas of town included in the Year 2 Project are provided in the link below. All lead services lines within this year’s project area are planned to be replaced with copper pipes in conjunction with this funding opportunity.
Coming off the water main in the street, is a small ¾ inch to 1-1/2 inch pipe that connects to your home at your water meter. Due to the age of your home, that may be a lead pipe. If it is determined to be a lead pipe, the Village is offering to replace it with a “lead free” line, at NO COST to you. The average cost per house to replace this pipe is approximately $10,000. So, this is a great opportunity for you to get rid of your old lead service line. You will need to sign a simple agreement granting access to your property to do the work. After the line is replaced, we’ll restore any landscaping that was disturbed. This is COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY, but participation is strongly encouraged.Info for SH Website
Taft Street Resurfacing Project
General Contractor: D Construction
Engineer: Robinson Engineering
The Village has obtained federal aid through the South Suburban Mayor and Managers Association (SSMMA) for roadway improvements along Taft Street between Union Ave and Canal St.
The project scope consists of pavement resurfacing with hot-mix asphalt, pavement patching, driveway removal and replacement, drainage and utility structure adjustments/reconstruction, restoration, pavement markings, signage and all incidental and collateral work necessary to complete the project.
The contractor will require travel lanes be closed at times to facilitate the required improvements. At least 1 travel lane in each direction shall be maintained throughout the project duration.
Some of the driveways within the project limit will be removed and replaced as part of the improvements. There will be short durations when access to driveways will be impeded while work is being completed. Temporary access to properties will be provided via temporary stone at the close of each working day. The contractor will provide residents with further notice of the work through door hanger placards, which will be posted prior to work on any driveway. Door hangers will provide further information on timing for anticipated driveway replacements.
The project is scheduled for a June 2024 letting, with construction beginning in July 2024, and continuing through the summer with substantial complete anticipated in November 2024.Info for SH Website

The scope of work varies throughout the project. All areas listed below within the project will have the asphalt milled and removed and a new top surface of asphalt installed. Some driveway aprons, sidewalks and curbs that are damaged will be replaced. However, not all driveway aprons, sidewalks and curbs will be replaced. Robinson Engineering has marked the locations where driveway aprons, sidewalks and curbs need to be replaced.
Robinson Engineering is aware of existing sprinkler systems and will talk with the concrete contractor before they begin removing sidewalk. If any damage occurs during construction the contractor will fix the problem.

2025 Sanitary Sewer Cured-In-Place Pipelining Project
Village of South Holland
2025 Sanitary Sewer Lining Project
General Contractor: Hoerr Construction, Inc. – (309) 691-6653
Engineer: Robinson Engineering – John Hilsen (708) 359-5548
The scope of work varies throughout the project. All the highlighted sewer segments shown in the location map linked below will have the sewer lines lined with an internal sleeve that will cure in place, seal all cracks, and extend the service life of the sewer mains and service laterals located within the street right-of-way. To facilitate these liners, four (4) locations will need to have a sanitary sewer point repair performed to replace broken and collapsed existing pipes. All residents and system users that will be affected by these pipe replacements will receive notification in advance of the work being completed, both from the Village and General Contractor. The project is completed via access through the existing manholes, so the impact of this work is expected to have minimal disruption for residents and will provide benefit for all sewer system users. The lining project will reduce the in-flow and infiltration of stormwater and sewage water from traveling outside the pipes. The project includes rehabilitation of 5,925 Feet of existing sanitary sewer, four (4) sanitary sewer point repairs, and thirteen (13) lateral tee-liners. This work is tentatively scheduled to start in late May 2025 and be completed by September 2025.Map_25-R1004.20 CIPP.pdf
