The Department of Community Development Inspectional Services consists of three divisions:

• Building Permit Inspections performed by Building Inspectors for permitted projects.
• Rental Housing Inspections performed by GNRHI Inspectors tri-annually on registered rental homes.
• Property Maintenance Inspections performed by Code Enforcement Officers throughout town.
• Fire Inspections performed annually at businesses, churches, schools and daycares.

To schedule a Building Permit Inspection, please email an inspection request to permitinspections@southholland.org with the following information:

• Permit number
• Type of inspection (building, electrical, rough, final, etc…)
• Address where the inspection is to be performed
• Contact information for the person who will be on site for the inspection

You will receive an automatic reply to let you know the request has gone through. You will receive a second email response within 24 hours confirming the day & time once your inspection has been scheduled. For more info about Building Permits, click here.

To schedule a Rental Home Inspection, please email a request to the Rental Team at GNRHI@southholland.org or call 708.210.2900 x5203

• Include the property address that needs the inspection
• Preferred days and times for the tenants’ availability
• Contact info for the owner or management company making the request

To schedule an inspection with the Property Maintenance Team, please email a request to code@southholland.org or call 708.210.2900 x5202

• Include the property address that needs the inspection
• Your relationship to the property (owner, tenant, management company, neighbor, etc…)
• Reason for the inspection (follow up with a Code Officer on a warning, report a concern about a neighboring property, etc…)
• Specific items that need inspection (i.e. grass/landscaping, roof, fence, etc…)

Fire inspections are conducted annually at all commercial businesses, churches, schools and home daycares as a condition of obtaining or renewing a Business License.

New fire safety systems being installed must be permitted and therefore follow the Building Permit Inspections procedure.

The Village of South Holland does not require or perform Property Sale Inspections. If you are selling or purchasing a property and want to have it inspected, you may hire a private home inspector.
