Social Media Policy

Effective: September 16, 2021

Purpose

The Village of South Holland uses official social media channels (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter) to share event highlights, positive news, and other public information with residents and businesses. 

Limitations

Village social media pages are limited public forums. Discussion may be restricted to the post’s topic and the Village’s stated purposes. 

Mandatory Notices

By posting or commenting, users agree to the terms of this policy (posted on all Village accounts). Public comments reflect the poster’s views, not the Village’s. The Village disclaims responsibility for material it deems inappropriate that cannot be removed immediately. 

Prohibited Use and Activities

Content that meets any of the following criteria may be removed as soon as possible:

  • Violations of federal, state, or local law, or Village policy
  • Profanity or sexually explicit material
  • Ethnic slurs; personal insults; harassing, defamatory, fraudulent, or discriminatory content (including on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, public assistance status, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation)
  • Advocacy for or against political campaigns or ballot measures
  • Solicitations of commerce
  • Conduct or encouragement of illegal activity
  • Off-topic comments
  • Confidential or security-compromising information
  • Infringements of others’ legal rights
  • Violations of the platform’s terms of use
  • Links to any of the above content  

Removed Content

If content is removed under this policy, administrators document the removal and the reason. 

Time of Use

Accounts are monitored during normal business hours (weekdays, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., excluding holidays). Immediate responses should not be expected outside monitored hours. 

Emergencies

Do not report emergencies via social media. For police, fire, or medical emergencies, dial 9-1-1. 

Copyright

Content on official Village social media is the property of the Village and intended for informational use. Reuse, transmission, duplication, or distribution must clearly attribute the Village of South Holland. Commercial use requires written consent. The Village logo and tagline (“Faith, Family, and Future”) may not be used for non-governmental purposes.
