South Holland hosts a variety of events throughout the year that encourage residents to meet one another and develop relationships, foster community pride, celebrate various holidays, and highlight important issues.
Residents are encouraged to become an active participant in the community. It can start with the following events*:

Arbor Day Celebration
2nd Saturday in May
Each year we celebrate Arbor Day with a ceremonial planting of a tree.
Artists’ Gallery
2nd Thursday in October
View the stunning works of art by South Holland artists at our annual Artists’ Gallery. Visit the Community Center and enjoy local art.
Cruise Nights
Last Saturday of July
Vintage and exotic cars are on display, plus live music, a full series of activities and games, and food vendors. This is a great opportunity to connect with family, friends and neighbors.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Celebration
3rd Saturday in January
This celebration honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with song and scripture. Held at a South Holland church.
Fun Run 5K
2nd Saturday in September
Join us for a fun and entertaining 5K run through the streets of South Holland. This event raises money for local charity. Open to all ages.
Heritage Fest
Labor Day
Come to Paarlberg Park for a day of activities for the whole family. Heritage Fest, hosted by the South Holland Historical Society, features a magic show, DJ, food, and music by the South Holland Municipal Band.
Independence Day Celebration
4th of July
The July 4th Celebration begins with a Rib Fest Contest at Veterans Park, followed by a day of fun, food and games. The celebration concludes with the best fireworks display in the south suburbs.
Mayor’s Coffees
Quarterly
Informal gatherings that are held quarterly at the Community Center to give residents an opportunity to meet with the Mayor and other Village officials to share their comments and concerns.
Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast
1st Thursday in May
This annual breakfast is sponsored by the South Holland Ministerial Association.
Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony
Memorial Day – Last Monday in May
The annual parade honors the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Parade of Lights
Last Thursday in September
The annual Parade of Lights honors the memory of South Holland Firefighters and all others who have fallen.
South Holland Master Chorale
October through May
The 100+ member chorus performs locally and throughout the Chicago south suburbs and Northwest Indiana, with orchestras including the Chicago Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, the LaPorte Symphony, the Illinois Philharmonic, and the Lake Shore Symphony Orchestra. Full concert
South Holland Municipal Band Concerts
Memorial Day through Labor Day
Our Municipal Band performs a series of concerts over the summer. The concerts are held at the bandstand at Veterans Park on various Thursday evenings.
Winter Wonderland
1st Friday in December
The holiday extravaganza features a tree lighting ceremony, trolley rides, visits with Santa, face painting and balloons, a Christmas movie shown in a heated tent, live music, refreshments and more.
