AMBER Alerts
AMBER Alerts are urgent messages sent out when a child is believed to be abducted and in danger. You may see these alerts on your phone, highway signs, TV, or radio.
The goal is simple: get critical information to the public quickly so more people can help bring the child home safely.
What to do if you see an AMBER Alert:
- Pay attention to the details (vehicle, location, suspect description)
- Stay alert while driving or in public places
- Call 911 immediately if you spot anything that matches
Do not attempt to approach a suspect yourself.
How it works:
In Illinois, AMBER Alerts are a partnership between law enforcement, media, and emergency systems. When strict criteria are met, an alert is sent out across multiple platforms within minutes.
This includes:
- Wireless emergency alerts on mobile phones
- Highway message boards
- TV and radio broadcasts
South Holland’s approach:
The South Holland Police Department encourages all residents to stay aware and informed. Community awareness plays a key role in helping law enforcement respond quickly in these situations.
The more people who are paying attention, the better the chance of a safe recovery.
