ComEd Tree Trimming Scheduled in South Holland
ComEd has notified the Village of South Holland of upcoming tree trimming and vegetation management work in designated areas of the community. Crews are expected to begin working in affected neighborhoods over the coming months as part of ComEd's ongoing efforts to maintain reliable electrical service and reduce power outages.
Trees and branches that grow too close to power lines can create safety hazards and interfere with electrical equipment. Routine vegetation maintenance helps prevent these issues and improves the reliability of electrical service for residents and businesses.
What Residents Can Expect
Qualified arborists and line-clearance crews contracted by ComEd will perform vegetation management activities near electrical distribution lines. Work may include:
-
Trimming trees, branches, and vines that interfere with or have the potential to interfere with power lines.
-
Removing trees when necessary to maintain safe clearance around electrical equipment.
-
Treating remaining tree stumps with an approved herbicide to prevent regrowth, when applicable. Herbicides will be applied by state-licensed professionals.
In some cases, trees may require significant trimming or removal to maintain safe distances from power lines.
ComEd has notified affected customers and property owners about the planned work. No action is required from residents who receive a courtesy notification.

Planting the Right Tree in the Right Place
To help prevent future conflicts with power lines, ComEd encourages property owners to consider the mature height and placement of trees before planting.
Trees that grow taller than 20 feet, such as maples, elms, and blue spruces, should not be planted beneath or near distribution power lines. Smaller trees and shrubs, including certain dogwoods and crabapples, may be more appropriate for locations near electrical equipment.
Residents can learn more about proper tree placement through ComEd's Right Tree, Right Place program.
